I’ve been playing guitar and bass for most of my life. Growing up, I played in several bands – everything from acoustic folk, fuzzed out 90s era rock, even pop & prog rock / fusion – if someone was interested in making music, I was interested in being part of it. I did that for a number of years, but then life happened, and I put down the guitars for while. I’d still play here and there, but as a new parent I played for an audience of one. As she got older, things settled down and I ended up finding myself again with a group of friends who wanted to start a band. Dusting off my old bass at 37, I soon realized the sound I heard coming out of my instrument was uninspiring. It felt like someone had taken a thick blanket and put it over my speaker cabinet. I started buying more gear in hope of finding the exact sound I was looking for. Some two dozen guitars later, I decided to take a different approach.

I began the journey of modifying almost every instrument I own. I would swap out the stock electronics to get a more open sound, but often found myself in the same boat each time; the sound was better, but not exactly what I wanted. I started buying various pickups, and while the results were better, I still had a sound in my head I was hoping to obtain. After a lot of deliberation, I set up a workshop at my house and started winding my own pickups. My first project was a set of P-Bass pickups for a custom bass I had been working on. After a good amount of research (trial with a large helping of error), I ended up hitting a big milestone; playing a show with a set of pickups I had designed and wound myself.

That show was a proof of concept that it could be done. I got quite a few comments after the set about the clarity and presence of that bass and started making them for my own instruments. Not long after that, I started receiving requests to make custom pickups for other people, with very positive feedback. While this is a part time project, my dream to turn this into a career to help others find a sound that suits them feels more obtainable each and every day.

For the moment, this site will be a showcase for designs I’ve made and commissions I’ve taken on. As I prepare to produce in quantity, I’ll slowly shift to a web store where designs I’ve thoroughly vetted will be available for purchase. In the mean time, if there’s a style you’re looking for, I’ll be happy to discuss adding it to my lineup.

Thanks for stopping by and I’d love to chat about an upgrade for your rig. Cheers!
